Supporting complex healthcare estate in decarbonisation journey

Shared Agenda has been supporting one of its key healthcare customers develop a decarbonisation strategy for its complex health estate. Taking in primary and community healthcare settings, the team are looking at a range of different measures to support long-term strategic plans around the sustainability and net zero agenda, as well as ‘quick wins’ that can have an immediate impact on energy consumption and staff/ patient experience.

As part of its estates strategy and business case work, Shared Agenda have an in-depth understanding of government and departmental policies and targets around Net Zero and look to align this with clients’ regional and local strategies. This could include understanding the current baseline position, benchmarking against comparator organisations, assisting to identify funding streams to support these ambitions, as well as our project management team taking these principles right through to design and delivery.

Nikola Idle, Associate Director at Shared Agenda said;

“We’ve been supporting clients with estates strategy and planning for almost ten years, and during that time we’ve seen a real switch in customer requirements regards the sustainability agenda. People used to ask how they could make their estate more efficient with a fairly narrow focus on reducing their running and operational costs, whereas this has now broadened to include a wider range of considerations around the environmental and social impact of the estate.

“Consideration of national and organisation specific requirements in this field should form an integral part of any project and therefore we always look to understand and define these at the start of any work we undertake”.
