Alan Johnson reappointed as Independent Chair

Former Health Secretary Alan Johnson has been reappointed to the role of Independent Chair at a company which has delivered numerous successful estates projects for its public sector partners in Hull.

Alan first joined the Citycare board, after turning down numerous other offers, because of his desire to continue working in a field he had become so familiar with as an MP.

The former Health, Education and Home Secretary has chaired the company since 2017, through the development of the Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre, in partnership with NHS Hull CCG, and more recently has celebrated alongside the team as they were once again named in the Sunday Times Top 100 companies to work for list.

Part-owned by the NHS, the public private partnership was set up in 2004 and has since delivered 13 new health and wellbeing centres across Hull, alongside other major refurbishment projects and a wide range of other estates services generating over £250 million of economic impact for the city.

He said: “I’m looking forward to continuing my role as Independent Chair because Citycare is an organisation that has done so much to realise the original aim of the NHS, to provide high quality primary care facilities in every community.

“As the Jean Bishop Integrated Care Centre has demonstrated, Hull continues to be a City at the forefront of innovation in health care and Citycare’s role in delivering that project was a crucial element of its success.”

Alan will also be reappointed as Independent Chair of Shared Agenda, Citycare’s sister company. Shared Agenda which was set up nearly eight years ago to offer consultancy services to assist with public sector estate challenges across the whole of the UK.

Jo Barnes, Chief Executive of Citycare and Managing Director of Shared Agenda said: “I am delighted to be able to share that Alan Johnson will continue as our Chair and I’m confident the rest of the board echo that sentiment. Alan’s passion for the sector has been evident over the last few years.

“Our commitment for the future, for both companies, is to keep supporting our public sector customers and partners in finding new opportunities to achieve sustainable savings and maximise the efficiency of their estate.

“Alan continues to contribute his wealth of experience and knowledge to the role and this will continue to be invaluable to us, our partners and our customers.”
